Reforestation with Seedballs and Slingshots at Pha Kep Tawan (Sunset Cliff)

บรรยายนำชม

Pha Kep Tawan, a part of Thap Lan National Park, is another scenic view point in Wang Nam Khiao.  At different times of the day, Pha Kep Tawan reveals various natural wonders: the sea of mists in the morning and the green lush forest after the sun has risen high.  The highlight is to take photos of the sun or “catching the sun” at sunset.  The area near the cliff offers perfect camping spots for a stunning view.

Another fun activity at Pha Kep Tawan is reforestation by seedballs and slingshots.  It is great fun and all in a  good cause. The seedball is made from Afzelia (Makha Mong) seeds and Lontar palm seeds. Shooting seedballs into the forest will help to plant trees and increase the forest area in the Thap Lan National Park, which is the last natural Lontar palm forest in Thailand.

Reforestation by sling-shooting is provided for visitors free of charge, with a cost of seeds of only ten baht a bag.  The seedball shooting is easy: “stand firmly, stretch out the rubber slingshot band as far as possible, aim at the forest area ahead, and just shoot”. The sound of the seedballs fallings indicate that the seeds have  returned to the forest. Believe it or not, this method of reforestation is an efficient method to help increase the number of seedlings by approximately 80%. This activity should not be missed - it is great fun and helps conservation.
