ต้นเตยหนามมีลักษณะเป็นไม้พุ่มกึ่งไม้ต้น ใบยาวคล้ายหอก ปลายใบเรียวแหลม ขอบใบทั้งสองข้างหยักและมีหนามแหลมคม หนามที่ปลายใบจะโค้ง เนื้อใบมีความเหนียว มันวาว จึงนิยมนำมาทำเป็นเครื่องจักสาน ก่อเกิดเป็นภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่นช่วยสร้างอาชีพเสริม และสร้างรายได้ให้กับชุมชน Screw pine is a semi-shrub with long spear-like leaves. The tip of the leaf is slender and pointed. The leaf edges are serrated and have sharp curved thorns. The leaf is tough and shiny, therefore, the locals commonly use these leaves to make unique wickerwork, generating income for the local communities.
