ลิบง / Nibong Palm, Laochaown, Wild Palm

ลิบง มาจากคำมลายูว่า นิบง (Nibong) ซึ่งแปลว่าต้นหลาวชะโอน หรือ ต้นหลาวโอน/ หลาโอน ในภาษาไทยถิ่นใต้ เป็นไม้หายาก มักขึ้นอยู่ตามเขา โดยลำต้นมีความแข็งแรงมาก จึงนิยมนำมาทำเสา นอกจากนี้ ไม้หลาวชะโอนถูกนำมาใช้เพื่อสืบสานตำนานประเพณีชิงเปรต เทศกาลสารทเดือนสิบ เนื่องจากมีลำต้นสูงเรียว มีหนามตามลำต้น มองไกล ๆ คล้าย "เปรต" Nibong Palm, known in the Southern Thailand as Lao Cha-on tree or Lao-on tree / Laon tree. The nibong palm is a rare plant that often grows in the mountains. The trunk is well known for being very strong and is popularly used to make pillars. In addition, the nibong wood is an important tree required in a local tradition - the “Ching Pret”. The Ching Pret is a festival, typically organized in the tenth month. “Pret '' is a Thai spirit described to be as tall as a palm tree with huge palm-leaf sized hands and needle size mouth.
